Chapter 2: Installation & System Setup
2.1 Recommended System Specifications
Scribis is optimized for modern desktops and laptops:

2.2 macOS Installation & Permissions
On macOS, Scribis runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) with Metal acceleration enabled out of the box.

Setup Steps:
- Download the latest
.dmginstaller. - Double-click the DMG and drag Scribis into your Applications folder.
- Open Scribis from Applications or Spotlight.
🔑 Required System Permissions:
- Microphone: Required for live dictation and voice recording. Go to
System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Microphoneand enable Scribis. - Accessibility: Required for the Global Dictation feature to automatically type/paste text into other applications. Go to
System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Accessibilityand enable Scribis.

2.3 Windows Installation & NVIDIA CUDA Toolkit Setup
1. Install Scribis
- Download
Scribis-Setup-x.x.x.exe. - Double-click the installer and follow the on-screen setup wizard.

[!NOTE] If Windows SmartScreen Appears:
Click "More info", then click "Run anyway" to continue installation.
2. Install NVIDIA CUDA Toolkit (Required for NVIDIA GPU Acceleration)
To utilize your NVIDIA graphics card for hardware acceleration on Windows:
- Download and install the NVIDIA CUDA Toolkit (CUDA 12.x+) from NVIDIA's official portal:
https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads - Update your NVIDIA GPU Game Ready or Studio drivers to the latest version.
- Launch Scribis and open "Settings -> Models & Hardware" to verify CUDA GPU acceleration is detected.

- Laptops Without Dedicated GPUs:
- No CUDA setup is required. Simply select the SenseVoice Small or Parakeet model to enjoy ultra-fast CPU inference.
